The Characters
This series of novels feature characters that have developed for many years and many revisions. Like people, they are not perfect. They don't necessarily reflect my personal beliefs or anything about me. For example, simply because Sally Buds is depicted as a lesbian doesn't mean that I support gay rights or the gay lifestyle. I simply accept that homosexuality exists and that some people live such lifestyles. I personally do not take a stand on this issue in this series. Sally Buds, on the other hand may. Likewise, many of my characters do things that I don't approve of or expect. If they didn't, something would be wrong with me as a writer.
Sally Buds
Sally is a reluctant hero, but her sense of personal responsibility drives her to great acts of valor and self-sacrifice. First and formost, she is a doctor and a healer. Her concern for her patients led her into trouble with LaValley, the station commander on CMC-6, yet her concern for justice led her to try to help LaValley through her research into the mysterious dissappearence of the Canadian mining probe. Later, the loss of her friend and colleague Scott Anderson led her on a daring rescue mission to New Ontario and to victory. As space commissioner, Sally fought for justice and peace even though she hated the paperwork involved. And ultimately, she fought to protect the Szzzyyyxx race and the preservation of time.
Ian Merryfield
Ian is a hero and an adventurer, but he needs Sally to reach his potential. He is brave but humble, but mostly he is innovative. He flies spacecraft as though they were an extension of his own body and he is devoted to his wife Angela and the quaint English village at home.
Jackie
Jackie is Sally's conscience. A mystical figure, Jackie sees beyond the physical. With a child-like innosence, she explors the world as an environment that supports play. Sally protects her from the world whoose dangers she can not always see. Her insights put Sally's world in context. And every once in a while she paints a picture that fortells the future.
Angela Merryfield
Angela is a down-to-Earth force in Ian's life, and she works out to be the voice of reason. She has no creativity but tolerates it in Ian. She values success and excellence, which explanes why she is attracted to Ian. She is, however, the first one in the group to complain, and every new mission makes her less favorable to Sally's friendship with Ian.
Scott Anderson
Scott taught Ian everything he knows about flying, but he lack's Ian's creativity and vision. A farm boy from Nebraska, Scott loves the Corn Huskers and flying small airplanes. He's a boyish figure that nobody could not be friends with. Unfortunately, Scott Anderson was not the same after Homesick
4702
The Masters took Scott Anderson's soul and stamped a number on it. 4702 loves the Masters and will do anything possible to return to the labor camp Sally rescued him from. 4702 knows nothing but love for the Masters. He dreams of serving them and looks forward to a death in which the very skin and bones of his body would decorate their homes. Even after Scott Anderson returned to Earth, 4702 was always a part of him.
Carrie Anderson
Carrie is a tireless wife and mother of three. She provides the glue that holds their family together and provides Scott with the security he needs to be himself. She is a maternal wife, but this relationship works for them.
Rachel Poole
Rachel is small woman with a big problem. She sees tht future of human technology as a monster that will ultimately devour all life. VR technology specifically is her nemesis. When she finds out about the Masters, she will stop at nothing to protect Earth from them even if it means putting Sally and her crew into quaranteen. She is all business, and carries with her a difficult secret that keeps her from enjoying life. This is explored in Web of Life.
